James Stevens is the founder of Stevens Patent Law LLC, a firm dedicated to helping businesses and innovators protect what they’ve built. As the founding practitioner, he strives to cultivate a values-driven culture of honesty, integrity, and fair pricing. The entire team shares these core beliefs, which guide them while securing intellectual property for breakthrough technologies.

His professional journey is extensive, spanning over 20 years as a highly-skilled technologist and engineer, notably including 12 years with U.S. Army Special Forces. This hands-on background provided him with expertise in everything from bespoke electronic surveillance, satellite communications, cybersecurity, information technology, and software development under real-world conditions.

This deep technical expertise is the foundation for his approach to every patent application. Beyond understanding the legal requirements, James genuinely comprehends the technology behind the innovations. He translates complex technical achievements into patent language that captures their true value and strategic importance.

JONATHAN KEMPF

Jonathan Kempf is a skilled Patent Agent at Stevens Patent Law LLC, where he focuses on drafting and prosecuting patent applications across a wide range of technical fields, drawing on a strong background in electrical engineering and advanced technical analysis. Prior to entering patent practice, Jonathan worked on complex engineering programs supporting the U.S. Department of Defense, where he developed and evaluated algorithms for system-level search, acquisition, and tracking functions and prepared detailed technical analyses to support senior decision-making. This analytical rigor enables him to deliver precise, strategically crafted patent applications tailored to each client’s technology.


Jonathan’s prior experience also includes roles as a Test Engineer at the UNH InterOperability Lab and as a Distribution Engineering Intern at Until Corporation, where he honed his ability to analyze complex systems and clearly communicate technical concepts. He is proficient in physics, engineering, systems, and software, with experience in programming languages such as C, MATLAB, and Python, as well as engineering tools including AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
With specialized training in radar theory and related engineering disciplines, Jonathan brings a practical, systems-level perspective to patent prosecution, helping ensure that clients’ intellectual property is protected with clarity, precision, and foresight.

DAT MAI

Dat Mai is a Patent Agent with extensive, multidisciplinary experience in both life sciences and software engineering, particularly in the fields of bioinformatics, genomics, machine learning, and AI. He leverages this cross-disciplinary background to strategically safeguard innovation.

Before entering patent law, his career spanned cutting-edge roles in academia, biotech, and consulting. Dat earned his Ph.D. in Integrative Biology from UC Berkeley, where he focused on large-scale genomic studies, developed Python-based bioinformatics tools, and published peer-reviewed research.

He further built on this expertise in the biotech industry as a Bioinformatics Scientist, building scalable cloud-based automations used to process terabytes of data. Dat also developed market intelligence tools using generative AI, combining his analytical mindset with a focus on real-world business impact.

His consulting experience, where he helped pharmaceutical clients identify operational bottlenecks and revenue opportunities, instilled skills he now applies to strengthen client IP portfolios. Whether drafting robust patent applications or conducting deep-dive competitive analyses, Dat is focused on turning scientific insights into strategic assets.

Adam Duncan

Adam Duncan is a highly skilled Patent Agent at Stevens Patent Law, where he leverages a comprehensive understanding of the intellectual property lifecycle to protect cutting-edge innovations. With a technical foundation rooted in computer science and data security, Adam specializes in the drafting and prosecution of complex patent applications, particularly those involving artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cryptography.

Prior to joining the firm, Adam served as a Patent Examiner at the USPTO within Technology Center 2400. During his tenure, he conducted in-depth prior art searches and interpreted legal principles for high-stakes matters in computer network security and generative AI. This “behind-the-scenes” perspective allows him to anticipate examiner concerns and develop strategic approaches that bridge the gap between complex technology and patentability requirements.

Adam’s professional background also includes significant experience as a Systems Engineer at Speakerbus, Inc., where he implemented ERP and SAP platforms and utilized Python and SQL to manage large-scale data sets and visualizations for financial institutions. He is proficient in a variety of programming languages and tools, including Java, C, and Jupyter Notebooks.

Adam provides client-focused IP solutions that ensure innovations in the software and security sectors are protected with precision and detail.

Mallory adams

Mallory Adams serves as a Patent Administrator at Stevens Patent Law LLC, where she manages the crucial administrative aspects of patent filing and prosecution matters. Her attention to detail and organizational skills ensure smooth operations in the patent filing and maintenance processes.

Prior to joining the firm, Mallory gained valuable experience serving at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, where she provided administrative support in a dynamic military environment. Her background includes education at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, contributing to her adaptable and resourceful approach to administrative challenges.

Abby brings valuable experience from her previous role as a Conference Support Specialist at PGI, where she spent four years honing her organizational and client service skills.

With a background in cosmetology and professional licensing through the Utah Division of Professional Licensing, Abby combines attention to detail with a client-focused approach. Her diverse experience enables her to effectively manage administrative responsibilities while ensuring smooth operations for the firm’s patent practice.
